Earth-observing satellite sensors map the Earth’s surface pro­per­ties. However, haze from water vapor and aerosol particles influence the recorded signal. In addition, in rugged terrain, varying illumination conditions (sunny and shady slopes) modify the "true" spectral behavior of surfaces. Atmospheric correction with ATCOR eliminates atmospheric and illumination effects. ATCOR stands for ATmospheric CORrection and is a Leica Geosystems GIS & Mapping software solution. GEOSYSTEMS GmbH, the Ger­man Leica Geosystems reseller, integrated ATCOR in­to ERDAS IMAGINE®. ATCOR2 and ATCOR3 are separate modules of ATCOR.
